Community Grant

A grant intended for a wide range of uses, including paying for utilities, fundraising, board and leadership development, salaries, meeting expenses, materials, or supporting a specific project/program.

AbodesJoy

AbodesJoy is driven by the belief that all individuals and families deserve secure, safe, and welcoming living spaces. AbodesJoy’s main program is Home Repair Training Program for female homeowners from under-represented and under-resourced communities. AbodesJoy trains and empowers cohorts of female homeowners who, together, learn basic construction skills that allow them to complete repair and renovation projects in their own homes, thereby also building equity in their homes. In turn graduates of the program become part of the AbodesJoy Construction Corps and give back to the community as a volunteer team participating in community restoration and renovation projects for other under-resourced homeowners.

Community Food Forest Collective

Community Food Forest Collective brings communities together to design, install, and maintain a network of food and maintain a network of food forests on public and private land while sharing the knowledge and skills needed to increase people’s understanding of food forestry, regenerative land stewardship, and ecologically-sound food systems. They work with CHEER, Montgomery College, Takoma Park Elementary School, Shepherd's Table, and MCPS. They also work with local climate, horticulture and student groups.

Historic Takoma, Inc.

Historic Takoma is a membership organization dedicated to: collecting and maintaining an extensive archive of documents, photographs, and maps that reflect the history of the city; and working to engage residents in exploring the heritage of Takoma Park, MD and Takoma, D.C. through the use of its archives and a variety of activities and programs. This grant supports the production of two short videos about Takoma Park’s Black community, drawing on oral interviews conducted under the African American Oral History Project, a multi-year initiative launched in 2019.

Maple Community Association, Inc.

The mission at Maple Community Association is to promote family sustainability, health, and wellness through community resources and mentorship programming to support the underserved youth and elderly populations within our community.

Maple Tree Group

The Maple Tree Group’s mission since Spring 2019 has been to improve the lives and overall health of women and children in the Maple Avenue community. The Maple Tree group is unique in that it primarily focuses on stay-at-home immigrant mothers in the Maple Avenue community, which is mostly composed of Ethiopian immigrants, to promote holistic health opportunities to ensure they feel supported and empowered within Takoma Park and nearby communities. The Maple Tree Group conducts parenting support groups, English classes, food distribution, and fitness and nutrition courses.

New Hampshire Estates/Oak View ES PTA

The NHE/OV PTA is a volunteer-led nonprofit organization supporting two schools, NHE and OV, with a focus on advancing their missions. Comprising parents, caregivers, and teachers, the PTA collaborates closely with school administrations to fulfill its goals. Both schools are Title I schools, with NHE having the highest poverty rate in MCPS. With over 93% of NHE students qualifying for Free and Reduced Meals (FARMs), the PTA prioritizes addressing economic disparities. Initiatives at NHE like the Black Boys Pilot program and the 21st Century Grant for tutoring services aim to provide comprehensive support beyond academics, fostering intellectual curiosity and personal growth.

Takoma Park Lunch and Learn Inc.

Takoma Park Lunch and Learn offers a valuable experience each summer to underserved children in Takoma Park, Maryland. Since 2013 Takoma Park Lunch and Learn has improved academic skills, built up physical well-being, shared the joy of extracurricular activities and served two nutritious meals a day—at no cost to the families.

Village of Takoma Park

The Village of Takoma Park, a mostly‐volunteer, grass roots organization of neighbors helping neighbors. The goal of the Village of Takoma Park is to provide intergenerational support to seniors (55+) and adults with disabilities who wish to live actively in the Takoma Park community. Though independent of both the City of Takoma Park and Montgomery County, the Village helps to promote and facilitate access to information about County and City services, and collaborates with the City and County in their efforts to serve residents aged 55+ as well as disabled residents of all ages, connecting them with resources, services and programs.
