What We Do
The Takoma Foundation raises funds and makes grants to advance the social, environmental, economic, educational and cultural interests of the greater Takoma Park community. The Foundation focuses its grant-giving on projects that empower individuals, break down barriers, build connections between people and expand community capacity.
Since 1989 the Takoma Foundation has given away nearly $350,000 to groups that make Takoma Park the great place it is to live and work.
The long-term role of the Takoma Foundation is to be a private funding resource for the entire Takoma community. Our volunteer board seeks to award grants that help to achieve shared community goals and promote shared priorities.
Those who have received Foundation grants include local PTAs, the Boys & Girls Club, Historic Takoma, health groups, sports leagues and other local organizations. The Foundation raised funds to buy equipment for the new Takoma Park Community Center, a center of recreational, civic and educational activities.
The Takoma Foundation is a component fund of the Greater Washington Community Foundation (GWCF), under the care of the Community Foundation for Montgomery County affiliate. GWCF is recognized as a 501(c)3 organization, which operates under the EIN #23-7343119. Therefore, all contributions to the Takoma Foundation are eligible for tax deductibility as a charitable contribution. All of the books and records of the Takoma Foundation reside at GWCF headquarters, located at 1201 15th Street NW, Suite 420, Washington, DC 20005. GWCF is the largest funder of nonprofits in the region.
All members of the greater Takoma Park community, including residents and business operators in the area, are invited and encouraged to become members of the Takoma Foundation.
