Takoma Foundation Fall Grants 2012

The Takoma Foundation has awarded $20,146 for 15 projects in its fall 2012 grants cycle. The grantees and descriptions of the grant awards are below:


  • Caribbean Help Center, Inc. Information and referral services and emergency assistance. $1,000.
  • Class Acts Arts, Inc. Carpe Diem Monthly Community Sing (four events). $1,000.
  • Community Bridges, Inc. After-school cultural program targeted at low-income and immigrant girls in Takoma Park. $2,000.
  • Docs In Progress, Inc. Takoma Park Stories Documentary Project. $1,700.
  • First Book - Montgomery County. Book distribution in 2013 to Rolling Terrace and CentroNia students. $1,000.
  • Gandhi Brigade Youth Media. Sixth Annual Youth Media Festival. $1,000.
  • Montgomery Blair High School PTSA. Academic achievement incentives and support for FARM students. $1910.
  • Old Takoma Business Association. reCYCLE Take a Seat Public Art Project. $1,500.
  • Old Takoma Business Association. Trolley service during Art Hop Takoma 2013; trolley will go from Maple Ave. to Takoma Junction, via Takoma DC. $1,400.
  • Piney Branch Elementary School. Using Wind Power to Generate Electricity, an Engineering Challenge. Purchase of six project kits to serve approximately 120 students. $531.
  • Takoma Park Elementary School. "Books and Breakfast" childhood reading program for pre-K children and families (in Amharic and Spanish). $2,000.
  • Takoma Park-Silver Spring Youth Softball. Replace worn catchers' equipment (seven sets). $1,050.
  • Takoma Park Volunteer Fire Dept. Initiate Junior Fire Fighter Program. $1,555.
  • Washington Revels, Inc. Transportation by buses to special free holiday performance in D.C. $850.
  • YMCA Youth & Family Services. Family Horizons Activity Program for Rolling Terrace students and their families. $1,650.
