2014 Spring Grantees

In the 2014 spring grant cycle, the Takoma Foundation awarded 10 grants totaling $16,165.00. All of the Takoma Foundation's grants are made possible by the generous donations of individuals and businesses here in Takoma Park.

African Refugee Center -- Youth Art Beat Camp. A weeklong summer camp for recent African Immigrants to help them assimilate to life in the United States through art.

Blair High School PTSA -- BOLT: Blair Outstanding Leaders of Tomorrow. Support for adult mentors and a leadership coach to students to learn communication skills at Blair High School.

Create Arts Center -- SmArt Kids Afterschool Program. After-school art classes for students at East Silver Spring Elementary.  

Eastern Middle School PTSA -- Grand Slam Poetry Workshop for 8th Grade Class. A workshop and poetry slam for the entire 8th grade class at Eastern Middle School.

Hampshire Towers Tenant Association -- Hampshire Towers Youth Initiative. Support for youth activities for 170 children living in the Hampshire Towers.

Historic Takoma -- Takoma Radio Project Oral History Project. Equipment for an oral history project of the community.

Takoma Write Night -- Free Mind Book Club and Writing Workshop. This is a program which encourages prisoners to write poems and fiction and then get feedback from volunteers. There are also community events at which the works are read out loud.

The Village of Takoma Park Forming a Legal Entity. Support for the cost of legal fees for the Village of Takoma Park; one goal of the initiative is to determine ways to enable older residents to remain in their homes.

Takoma Park Folk Festival and Takoma Jazzfest. The Takoma Foundation provides annual support to these longstanding community cultural events.
